请问住Barrhaven的朋友今年孩子入高中都去哪个学校？

我们新到渥太华，现住Barrhaven，刚好孩子今年申请高中，儿子班上没有其它中国孩子，所以不知道我们华人都申请哪个高中。能不能请教住在这个区的朋友给点建议，如果您也有要入高中的孩子，我们也可有个朋友。现在有几个选择，拿不定主意去哪个：Merivale, New Longfields-Davision, John McCrae

实话实说, Merivale High 不算太好, 关键是生源不太理想;

John McCraee 学校不错. 但如果你住在 GREENBANK ST.以东(即不在区内) 可能需要申请.

New Longfields-Davision 是新学校. 新校舍, 新老师, 新学生, 应该是很有激情的学校. 另外, 这个学校正式的首批毕业生将是今年入学的9年级学生 (这个学校今年也招10年级的, 但数量不会太多).

谢谢楼上的回复。我最近道听途说John McCarae 有种族歧视，而且学生有些暴力，本来打算去的又犹豫了。新学校是儿子的选择，但就不知道新学校是否能开很多课程供学生选择，而且两年之内都没有rating, 心里有些没底。

公立学校好坏全靠生源. 我家儿子也是铁定新学校, 雷打不动, 所以讨论期早已经结束了.

That is the right thinking, forcing the kid (too young, in fact) to waste a few hours per day (either he/she takes the bus or you are driving) for a few years is not worth it.

Chinese's mentality of wanting the best "rated" school for their kids are driving their kids to the brim of disaster.

A friend of mine who lives in Kanata is doing such a thing, his poor kid has to get up at 5:30AM each day, take the OC transpo to Lisgar, and back. And the recent bus strike also forced him to drive the kid to/back from school. To me, this is torture.

At the end of the day, the kid probably get accepted to U Of Waterloo or other U, just like everybody else. There is no advantage whatsoever.

Going to a school only populated by your own kind only makes the kid familiar with his own culture only, it will also harm his future adaptation in the Canadian society.

Chinese style educations lack creativity, having him/her growing with other races will only help your kids future.

All my kids are born in Canada, they all able to speak Chinese and know their own culture, but the most important thing to me, when I die, is their ability to survive in this society.

你说的没错，但我发现最终中国孩子还是和中国孩子在一起玩，或是亚裔，好像他们也还是很难融入主流社会。

谢谢楼上两位的回复，但不知道有没有这种可能，Merivale成绩好是因为有好多Barrhaven的孩子，可是现在新高中一招生，好生源都走了。
