We went there last summer, we rented a cottage right beside the Forillon national park, I forgot the name of the cottage ( something like 'le petit maison du parc' ), that way, it's cheaper than the big hotel and cleaner and convenient than motel, you can cook yourself ( there is a small store near the park, they sell fruit and vegetable, we brought rice from home and bought noodle from Rimouski, or you can buy stuff from town of Gaspe, not far), from there, you can go to Perce ( for percy rock and the island for bird) and back in one day.
We went there by car, on the way there, we stayed first nigth at Rimouski, most part of the road from Ottawa to near Rimouski has at least two lanes, but most part after Rimouski is single lane, so depends on how early you get up, it's more reasonable to spend one night on the way going there, but you can get back to ottawa in one day easily if you get up early, so there won't be many cars on the road on the one lane part.
Don't forget your fishing tools, it's free to fishing in Forillion park(don't need license), although you need to spend money to get into the park(I forgot the price, one car $9 if I am right), there is only one kind of fish:mackerel, but there are a lot of them when it's not low tide, check the schedule of the tide before you make your plan, one person can only take 10 fishes home per day, so we throw most of them back, mackerel is not very tasty.
