Auto service-nightmare!

如果LZ直接drove down to Ogdensburg, NY the next day and had my complete brakes done,
LZ就不必Eventually I paid the inspection fee of $59.83 CAD (49.95+2.99environmental fees and taxes) and ran out of the place

"$59.83 CAD"+"检查所花费的时间"+"问题没解决"~= "一场恶梦"

+ If LZ was not responded with smart decision fast enough, it would be a definite nightmare for him.

Now, I finally see the point: $59.83 CAD=

:blowzy:

Haha. Let's see someone commented CCC. And indeed, CCC is a smart and helpful guy.

Thank you for everyone's thoughts and inputs...that is exactly what I meant, if I have gone down to a cheaper (or should I say a more reasonable priced..) shop, then I wouldn't have to waste a day for nothing and then the "visual" inspections fee of $59.83 CAD plus the continueous thoughts of the outrageous repairing fee in the back of my mind...even to this day...a nightmare (I wouldn't call it a sweet dream...I hope not) in which inspires me to share my personal story on this blog to share with everyone here...and just like CCC is saying, sharing is good and I believe we should continue to share personal experiences on the blog to let good drivers and car lovers be informed of which is a good shop to go visit and/or which is a shop that we should avoid at all "COST"! :) Whether it is in the U.S. or in Canada! But one thing I really have to mention though...as far as saving money...it is simple to think this way...with GST and PST (totalling to be 13%) comparing with U.S. NY state tax (7.25%), it would make sense to get the service done there...if you have the time to drive down there! 13% of $100 equals $13 while 7.25% of $100 only equals to $7.25...the more the cost of the service, the more you "save" because of the tax rate...anyways...I've said enough...I am turning the mic to the next guest speaker! :D

Thanks Patio for the future tip...I never thought of that at the time...I was just a bit upset when I was quoted with such outrageous price that I immediately thought of going over to the border...again, this is an idea and information blog...every tip is helpful to everyone here reading the articles... I will look up for 黑哥 the next time for mechanic problems...but as for the brake service...since I got the "lifetime" replacement of the brake pads on my vehicle...I still think it was a steal for me personally. :) Thank you for the comment.

I think for that brake job, YIMOHEI should be a better price solution instead of driving down south for hours. Even you got " a life time brake pad " but you still need to pay the labor, actually MIDAS used to have the same thing....

Yimohei?! Really?! What is their price on the brake service? But like I said, it all depends on the individual...for me, I only lives about 45 minutes aways from the border (Well...I drive kinda fast, but still...pretty close to it). So, if you really lives hours away (not that I think people in Ottawa drives hours to get to Ogdensburg), then it sure sounded like it could be a local job to have it done. As for the "lifetime" pads...whenever I do go visit Walmart there or their Pricechopper, or whenever I want to get new pads...or even just around the area...I can always have a new pair swap out.
If Yimohei does have a better deal, please share, we could do a price comparison, I would like to know as the same as many others here would like to know too! Where is Yimohei by the way?
*My expense for that trip was: $5 CAD (estimated gas fee to go down) + 45 minutes of drive down + 45 minutes of service time (I made an appntmnt, but the manager took me half an hour early) + $163.71 USD (brake service) + brake pads lifetime assurance + several items from Walmart (US, which things are a bit cheaper and the taxes rate is a bit lower, one of the things that I bought was the PS3 Madden 10 football game) + much much cheaper gas for my car (I filled up my gas tank with about $40.50 USD, which would normally costs me about $ 60 CAD in Ottawa) + 45 minutes to drive back + feeling good (unlike Midas who I am still upsets about) and worried free about the whole incident! In total, I spent about less than 3 hours (2 hours and 45 minutes to be exact...I took about a 45 minutes of shopping time and checking out time at Walmart) from my own home and back to my own home and got all the shoppings and the auto repair (brakes) done. Normally it would take about that amount of time "or even longer" to get the brake service done here in town...so I was told by Midas.
Please share if anyone have more tips on saving money. Thank you! :)
Oh...does anyone knows a good place to get the car detailed in a professional way?

go over to States for minor repairing and shopping is a kind of "get away" from Ottawa. With cheapest tax, gas, nice goods to shop, as well as finest restaurant to eat, why not if you have time?

FYI, the auto shop LZ mentioned gives me a free checking this Saturday while most of the shops in Ottawa charge for checking. "Nothing is free" is what they will tell you.

:blowzy:

Not unless you give them the works. You don't pay, they don't let you go. CT, YMH, big car dealers here are all the same, . Especially CT at Bell Corner. CT not only charge you for checking but also damage your other good parts in order to bill you more. This is my true experience. CT is even than all small Chinese shops add together. Never go to CT or else you will be sorry.

The Caucasian shops here are not what you think and expected before. Not only for car / car repair industry but also in other industries like Internet service provider. Time changed. And you got to survive.

如果不换Rotor,$229+,如果Pads是free (Promotion for most cars),$169+。

You are right, that is why I call it a nightmare...how can someone even come up with such number to quote me (even though they did provided me a detailed cost/list). But like I said, coming up with such outrageous numbers is just not being honest...unless you don't want a returning customer...maybe for some shops, charging you heavily once is more important than earning your trust. Even though $229+ CAD is a good deal but compared with what I have paid by getting it done in Ogdensburg, it is still cheaper there...oh, any I got my shopping done too and my gas filled.
But again, it is a personal preference, if spending a little more but save you time by not driving down is your preference..then why not! Whatever makes you happy will do...for me...almost $600 CAD for a brake job...is definitely not cool!!!

Is it this Saturday?! Please let me know how it goes? :) Again, there are a few more shops in Ogdensburg then Monroe, but I can only speak about my experience with Monroe...if Monroe doesn't satisfy you, then there are more options...of course. :)
