Why Nearly Everyone Loses Money in MLM, but So Many Keep Trying
What few people realize about "duplication" in MLM sales schemes (Recruiting other distributors who recruit other distributors, who recruit others, and so on) is that it places the vast majority of enrollees always at the bottom levels. This is where nearly all the members permanently are who pay the money that goes to the top.

The doubling of the penny each day for just 30 days illustrates the mathematical trick that MLM companies perpetrate on the new recruits

A penny doubled every day for 30 days amounts to over $5 million. However, note that it takes 25 days (levels) before it amounts to just one hundred thousand dollars. Then, in the last 5 days, it soars to over 5 million.

Such is the pattern of "duplication." Like MLM, most of the money is at the end of the chain. The source of that money is the newest enrollees who make up the vast majority of the entire chain.

The big numbers are at the deepest level of the "downline", but many levels must be assembled and maintained long before the numbers starting adding up. In MLM, only a few can ever achieve this. This is mathematically predetermined from the start by the MLM pay plan.

The trick of the trade is to cover up this reality and to convince each and every enrollee that he/she can succeed. Recruits are told that the program is a formula for wealth, even though it is mathematically impossible for any but a few to succeed.

The way the mathematical limitation works itself out is in the pattern of dropouts. MLMs don't totally saturate areas with members because most people quit within a year. All MLMs experience a 50-90% annual dropout rate.

Dropouts thwart the recruitment process at every level. The people trying to build the downline are always dependent on others below to "duplicate" the process. When their new recruits become discouraged and drop out, the rebuilding process must start yet again. And while the hopefuls engage in this constant rebuilding effort, they are also continuously paying money to the MLM for products and training as well as incurring other business expenses. Eventually, they drop out too.

On each "sale" or enrollment, MLM pay plans specify that the highest percentage of bonus money goes to the top ranks. The futile effort of the new recruits pumps nearly all of the bonus payments to those few people in the top ranks. The bottom levels, where the vast majority of members are, become a revolving door with new people cycling in and out every month.

Could someone ever build a large enough downline to continuously earn money? Yes, a rare few could, but only by grossly deceiving others with stories about "extraordinary opportunity," and "anyone can do it." Success is based on the losses of nearly all they enroll. Also, it will require continuous recruitment involving a great amount of time and cost in order to keep replacing those "losers." Retiring on "annuities" will never be possible unless you are at the very top.

Pyramid schemes in which no products are offered are fairly easy to identify, and they seldom last long without government officials shutting them down. But when consumers are presented with an income "opportunity" with multiple levels of product distributors, it is not always easy to determine whether or not it is an exploitive product-based pyramid scheme. It is well to remember that some programs are worse than others in terms of the percentage of participants who lose money and that some of the most damaging programs manage to escape legal action.

By performing this do-it-yourself evaluation, you can decide for yourself whether or not a program should be avoided. As you answer each question, you will be given information that will enable you to make a more informed decision.

The key to identifying the potential harm of a multi-level marketing program is to look for elements in the compensation system that create extremely high leverage for the top persons in the hierarchy of participants. MLM leverage refers to the concentration of payments from the company to founding and other top-level distributors, who profit hugely from the efforts and purchases of a multitude of "distributors" beneath them, the vast majority of whom lose both time and money.

Follow this series of questions to make a more informed decision.

*a.k.a. "Multi-level Marketing," "Network Marketing," "Consumer Direct Marketing," etc. The acronym "MLM" is used as a generic term here for the sake of brevity and because it is a widely known and accepted acronym for any type of multi-level product-based distribution system.

就拿这个美安公司来说,声称是成立于1992年,1994年上市,现在已经发展到8万人。我们夸张一点,就算它有131076人(2的17次方),就算它是从1994年上市以后才开始发展传销网络,那么也就是说,85个月过去了,它只发展了17层下家,平均每5个月才会发展一层,而按照美安的政策,必须当两个下家都积累1200个BV的时候(也就是说,两个下家各自发展6个下家――几乎只能指望着每个月50BV的强制消费,除非有人愿意当冤大头),才能拿到$300的支票。而在此期间,如果每个新发展的下家每个月只买规定的50BV的强制消费(这几乎是肯定的,传销的东西如此昂贵),两个下家将至少需要另外的两个5个月才能各自发展出6个下家。加在一起,一共是三个5个月,15个月。

可见,最一般的情况是:一个人进入传销网络以后,需要15个月左右才能拿到报酬。而按照美安的政策,这15个月需要买的高价商品总计达$750左右。而这15个月的报酬呢?区区$300而已。

另外,一旦拿到了第一个报酬($300),每个月就需要买$100而不是$50了,压力自然就大了一倍!

结论:绝大多数人进入传销网络是根本赚不到钱的,只能不断地买、买、买,不断地给美安公司送钱,给自己的上家送钱。

我不知道随意骂人的人是否受过足够的教育。我想根据家乡是哪里判断一个人的性格,好坏也是不好的行为,不知道你来自那里,为何没有在你的“来自:”上体现出来,怕别人根据你的来处攻击你么?

From my opinion, I beleive MA is a good business opportunity for everybody because it has high quality, low price products and a efficient working system. There is no cheating or lieing between friends,we just recommend the great buz opt to our friends and it's totally up to our friends to decide to take the opt or not. Be honest with you guys, I have been hurt very deeply by ONE 黑龙江人 too. It's a long story and I don't want hurt myself again to talk this out. What I wanna say here is, ONE 黑龙江人 can't represent all 黑龙江人! I still have couple of other friends who came from 黑龙江 are very very good. So, I hope "snowingbeauty" would expel his/her bias to 黑龙江人.
Also, I know so many people who is doing Direct Sale are high education and smart, I wish everyone would face this fact and treat it correctly!

然怪听朋友抱怨: 从职业道德上看, 传销公司还比不上"鸡鸭"店. 后者提供的性服务至少是货真价实的. 新来的移民朋友可要看管好你们的钱包. 上波的Java培训热刚完, 现在又冒出个传销...

在北美华人中, 香港和台湾来的做传销的很少, 特别是香港来的. 可能与他们商海经验丰富和脚踏实地有关, 不易上当.

传销的结构很像金字塔, 它的稳定取决于底层的倍增发展速度(一人找俩), 金字塔越大, 底层须要的人则越多. 可大陆移民有意做传销的有限, 特别是明年加拿大的移民打分限制, 更使传销发展雪上加霜. 一旦底层的传销人因长期招揽不到下线导致赔本而退出这种游戏, 金字塔就会发生雪崩效应.

如果那时候移民朋友才发现, 因传销而耽误了大好光阴, 坐失学习和其它发展良机, 就太晚了.


相信许多朋友都遇到过这种情况, 传销人员按照传销公司的教科书告诉你, 传销是为了将WalMart赚的钱退给你 (注: 这世道真乱套了, 资本家变慈善家了). 但当你指出传销的产品恰比别人更贵时, 传销公司的教科书又会告诉你, 你不能将Benz与Corolla相比. 当你又提出以下三个问题时:

既然传销产品那么质优价廉, 那...

为什么传销公司要强制它的会员每月至少买五十点的东西?
你(传销人)每月是否会买更多的东西?
为什么传销即使依赖友谊和关系都很难骗销得出去?

直到今天, 我还没有听到一个令人信服的答案.

我是2年前从大陆移民来多伦多的。几乎没有社交圈,至今也只是和原来国内认
识的人有来往。从来没有想过要做‘传销’,发财,用他们的话讲,如果和他
们一齐做,好像几年后,能让你富得把纽约比福利山庄的房子都买下来。也许
,有人是可以,但那时几千万分之一呢?对于我这样一个没有任何经验,而且
还没有在这儿立足的新移民来说,是很不实际的。

真后悔,我现在才认识到这一点,不过,还不算太晚,在此,想与大家分享
我的这段人生经历。只希望不要有太多的朋友上当。

(一)不断暗示,愿者上钩(骗你接进传销的团伙)
一个在国内和我关系不错的朋友,有一天,对我抱怨说:加拿大没有其用武
之的地方。虽然,他来了以后1年多才找到工作(我介绍他的),老婆在衣厂打
工也打了一年,但毕竟生活还算稳定。当他说起:“如有能在工作之余做点啥
,捞点外快,也不是个坏主意?”的时候,我也有点动心。毕竟,他为人还是
老实的那种,我想,如果他都觉得可靠的生意,为何不说来听听呢?(注意:
每当这时,这些‘梅子‘会约你到他家里,或公共场所,说是让与他合作的一
个更有经验的人给你‘说说'). 这时候,我觉得去听听也无防,于是他和老婆
非常热情的邀请我去他家吃饭,他老婆一向是很小气的,那天准备了水果和红
烧肉(这些,也是我事后才悟出的。)小坐片刻后,来了一个矮胖的男子,当
他打开一个厚厚的文件夹,拿出一大堆产品宣传册时,我才感觉到:这一定不
是我想在国外干的所谓‘PART TIME’工作。但出于对朋友的招待,我还是把那
人的演讲听完了。席后,一个瘦瘦的女的迫不及待地拿出好象是表格,要求我
立刻加入他们的‘传销’队伍。我被他们说得‘天花乱坠’,我的那个朋友也
在一旁及力鼓动。这时候,我才知道我的那个朋友已经是他们的一员了。我再
三说,我还要考虑,可那女的说:“现在,我们每天都有新人加入,现在签字
和明天签,就要排在最少10几个人的后面了,而且,如果你不放心,明天再给
我们打个电话,我们就马上把你的这张表作废了,千万不要担心。。。!!!
”。结果,大家可想而知了。

(二)步步为营,软硬兼施,直到成功
当天晚上,回家后,我躺在床上,怎么想都觉得有点怪怪的。当我拿起电话
,想问我的那个朋友一些问题的时候,他的老婆却在电话里说:“你是要好好
考虑,如果你觉得是不好的事,就不要做,省得以后后悔(‘好象是我拉你的
’)。。。反正我们是死心踏地了,而且我们已经交钱了。。。“。 挂了电话
,我反而有点犹豫了,你说,人怪不怪,本想取消的,反而被他们做了思想工
作。再想想,朋友既然说到这个份上了,给个面子也行,再说,要是上当,他
们不也上当了吗?朋友应该不会给我药吃的。 就这样一来,我正式成为‘老鼠
会’的一个成员了。之后,我的那个朋友包括他们组织的人,终日在我的耳朵
里灌输诸如:‘2年下来年薪10万’,‘产品如何无与伦比的好’,‘一般维生
素是垃圾’,连喝的水也要用他们的过滤器过滤才健康,等等等等。。。,总
之,他们是全球最好的’传销公司。想尽一切办法,激发你的‘发财’的欲望
,和拼命‘拉人’的冲动。至于要多少投资,他们会轻描淡写地告诉你,只要
每月向他们公司订购日常生活用品,就可以了。没有额外花费。

(三)揭开丑恶的真面目
就这样,我交了约2000刀,作为我的第一次定货费,换回了几箱营养品和洗
衣液(足够全家用大半年的),接下来,从第3个月起,要每月花150加元左右
,买产品(我想,一般华人家庭不时儿孙满堂的话,根本用不了这么多‘日用
品’)。在与这些人的交往中,我越来越看到,他们那种‘穷凶极恶’要拉人
加入的劲头,每个人为了自己的利益,不惜出卖自己的朋友,甚至亲戚。我的
那个朋友也好象变了个人,每天除了吃饭睡觉,无时不在想着怎样‘拉人’。
大家可能都知道,拉的人越多,你赚的钱越多。 在这个组织里,‘说假话,吹
牛,恶作剧,甚至苦肉记’你都能看到。许多从大陆来,原来的本份老实的知
识分子,也都变得‘市民气’十足,真让人悲哀。更让人气愤的是,他们居然
能把那些刚刚登陆的新移民,连生活都没有着落的人拉进来,说可以解决工作
问题。可怜,有的实在是经济有困难,首次只能交一半的定金,还在苦苦地为
他们的所谓‘朋友’拉人。传销能爆富!能不用上班,在家数票子!能让你买
得起豪华汽车,游艇! 不错,是有的做了‘传销’发财的,但那是多么小的概
率啊! 望新来多伦多的移民,你们还是把精力放在正经工作上,不要被花言巧
语蒙蔽,不要象我这样,进去以后再退出来,还是,一开始就擦亮眼睛的好。


最后我还想说几句。

这样的‘传销’带给社会的更多的是欺骗和愚弄,这样的团体越多,我们周
围的净土会越来越少。如果一味的追求金钱,啥都可以不要的话,我们活着还
有何意义呢?如果让我出卖朋友,欺骗他人,才可以年薪几十万的话,我宁愿
在这儿过平平淡淡的生活。

不过,上当也未尝不是件坏事,有时会让我们看得更清。但我还是有点遗憾
,毕竟,它让我失去了一个忠厚老实的朋友。
