Calypso Park under construction, April 2010
Calypso Park is a
waterpark under construction near
Limoges, Ontario,
Canada, about 35 kilometers (22 mi) east of
Ottawa. It is scheduled to open on June 7, 2010. The park, built by Village Vacances Valcartier at about
C$45 million, is on a 450 acres (1.8 km
2; 0.70 sq mi) site and will be Canada’s largest waterpark.
[1]
The park’s
wave pool will be a 52,000-square-foot (4,800 m
2) concrete pool, one of the biggest in North America. There are 35 waterslides, including 24.4 meters (80 ft) long extreme slides and a 500 meters (1,640 ft) jungle river ride.
[1] This artificial river will have a current strong enough to make it fun for all ages and decorated with elaborate landscaping. All throughout the park, themes will be developed to make Calypso no less of a theme park than Disneyland.
The park will employ 500 seasonal employees and will be able to welcome 12,000 visitors per day. The water temperature will be kept at 27 °C (80.6 °F) and fully filtered every 90 minutes. The park will consume 2500 kW of power.
[1]
The Calypso Park will also include several food outlets, shops, locker and changing areas, as well as a picnic area for groups and spots to lie under the sun. Electronic fingerprinting allows visitors to make purchases without the need to carry money.
Village Vacances Valcartier development planner Sylvain Lauzon says. “It’s going to feel just like if you were on a beach in the Caribbean.”
