Be WaterWise – Rain Barrel Rebate
City of Ottawa
951 Clyde Ave., Ottawa, ON K1Z 5A6
Why is the City of Ottawa providing a rebate for rain barrels?
Using a rain barrel to capture rainwater can provide your lawn and garden with fresh, chemical-free water and reduce outdoor water use. During the spring and summer months, water use can easily double or even triple due to outdoor water use and irrigation practices. Using a rain barrel will help decrease the demand on the City’s water treatment and distribution system.
The program does not apply to rain barrels purchased prior to April 27, 2011 or build-your-own rain barrels. Limit of one rain barrel per household.
Important tips for maintaining your rain barrel
Remove leaves and debris from eavestroughs to prevent clogging of downspouts and rain barrels.
Before each forecasted rain, empty your rain barrel to provide full storage capacity.
Before winter, drain your rain barrel. As water freezes, it expands and can crack your rain barrel.
