I converted to a gas stove about 20 years ago and have been very happy with it. But I did not do a quantitative comparison of the cost with electric stove. My rough estimation is the saving is there but not substantial. The main advantage is: heat production is instantaneous while electric elements take about at least 30 seconds to a minute to heat up. That alone would save a certain amount of energy.

I too am interested in the stove you mentioned above. If anyone has seen this stove in any store, please pipe up.

Went to CS Paradis today. What they have on display are all 36 in models.
They look really good but I did not ask for a demonstration or talk to a salesmen. Need Wiki to give us her review!

My impression is that Costco's model is a slightly lower model than the ones C.A. Paradis carry. However I think it should be good enough for normal family use. I've heard many rave review of the Costco 30" model before.
When we made our purchase, we needed a 36" one, so we had no choice but to go with C.A. Paradis. If the current Costco 36" was available, we might have went with them instead.

I know that C A Paradis on bank street sell this type of gas range for residential too check it out

I just received a Costco pamphlet and in it they have the Duro NXR gas ranges on sale from May 30 to June 12. They are knocking $400. off, from $1749.99 down to $1399.99.
Funny thing is they are out of stock now and Costco claims the in-stock date is May 30.
I wonder how this stove performs compared to the Bluestar. But then comparing the 30" models after the discount, it would be close to $1000 after tax. Both have convection oven but the Duro has sealed burners.
I like the look of the Bluestar but an el cheapo like me would probably go for the cheaper model.

Sealed burners don't perform as well as open burners. The flame direction is just not the same. You don't want the pot to heat from outside in, you want it evenly heated.

Love my expensive blue star I better do...I guess, hehe.
