Maybe you want to share your experiences of these bullying Chinese.

I think we shall give more chances to minority contract workers.

Minority workers should share the same opportunities, same competition pressure, and same consequence (if did a bad job) with majority workers.
That's the fairness I would like to see.

This is pretty fair. Did you go to a blog and say the contractor wasn't good ? You obviously didn't.

Same for the Chinese contractor. He didn't insist on the pay for the painting.

However, LZ came here to belittle the contractor. Isn't that disgusting ?
Why does he need to complain? The contractor didn't promise him something but not doing it, did he?

Repeat my question: How many Chinese people can immigrate to Canada because they have handy man training/diploma back in China?
It is a simple question, should not be any understanding issue.
呵呵,我觉得大部分中国contractor都是因为找不到工作,然后DIY出身转做contractor的。:D

It doesn't matter if the painting is his profession or not. If he promised to do it, it is in the contract and he has to do it.

LZ said he doesn't care about paying that $100. What he wanted is to finish painting the ceiling like it was before. Why do you think it is fair for him that the contractor didn't do it right? LZ wasted his time and energy too only to get this unfinished ugly ceiling? I don't think it is fair for LZ. I think it is very fair to complain about this contractor, and this contractor happens to be a Chinese.

The contractor lied about that he will painting the ceiling. I think he probably implied that he will paint the ceiling like what it looks like before. If he told LZ what he will do, I don't think LZ would agree in the first place.

你真的不能写中文吗?

Sorry no Chinese input software.

This is one-sided story from LZ. Throughout this description, I don't see anything wrong with the contractor - he did fix the leaking and agreed not to receive pay for painting.

LZ's belittling behavior is not fair and not moral.

Same for the Chinese contractor. He didn't do the painting well and therefore accepted no pay.

As a general rule, be nice to Chinese workers. Even if it means you suffer some minor loss. It is not easy for Chinese workers due to limited market size.

If you want service from large companies, then use these large companies.

Don't bully minority workers this way !

I would suggest the Chinese worker to use collection service to get the $100 from you ! So that you will be taught a lesson not to bully weak groups.

You are really something or I should say someone, aren't you?

You may need to see a psychologist if not psychiatrist. Business is business.

I know an inspector who has a PhD in civil engineering.

I don't know about you. I would give Chinese contractors more chance ... if possible ...

Bingo.
But 基础墙 may have different thought, I am still waiting.
It's long weekend anyway.

Tell the truth, when hiring somebody I never think about if the contractor is a minority or not, just shop around and pick the one sounds knowledgeable and reasonable. Any bad experience would be part of my fault because I choose this guy.

So far I've used 3 HVAC contractors, one plumber, one electrician, and 2 renovation contractors, 3 minorities among them, including one Chinese guy. Maybe I'm lucky but most of them did good jobs for me.

Do the research, shop around, and respect the contractors, that's all.

Of course, business is business. I like it this way ... This doesn't mean I bias against others.

For acceptable risks, I think we shall give minority more chances. For large jobs, we need professionals.

In any case, pay the $100 and round this event up. It is OK for you to stop dealing with him. It is not OK not to pay due to disagreement on quality of work.

Of course, it is your choice what to do. Since you post here, I think it is not good not to pay up.

You don't think you are too much. It is his business to feel satisfy with the work someone has done or not, not you business, right?

Since he posted his experience and thought here, you are titled to have your comments, so are everyone who want to.

He has consistently received your unfair and unground attack. Who do you think you are.

This is fair. But at least don't bias against minority workers like some posters did ...

Anyway, my fault. My last post might be a little too hard for you to understand:(

If possibile, I would hire the Phd guy to more suitable job if there is a position matches him/her background. And I won't pick on where did he/she get the education or experience from.
But hire him/her as handy man? please.

I am just a poster who happen to think LZ is not a fair person. The business deal is already settled. It is not moral to disparage on the worker.

Isn't that simple ?

It is also my opinion that LZ is disgusting, mean and of low moral grade.
