‘Hintonburg Hub’ moves closer to reality

The long effort to build a new centre for social housing and services in Hintonburg has taken a big step forward, with a major housing provider having a conditional deal to buy property near the Bayview Transitway station. The Centretown Citizens of Ottawa Corp. is seeking to buy land at 927 Wellington St., according to Jack McCarthy of the Somerset West Community Health Centre, one of the other partners in the effort. (Ray Sullivan, the executive director of the housing agency, is out of the country and the Citizen couldn’t reach him.) McCarthy said the deal is contingent on a lot of things, including getting all the money together and a suitable rezoning by the city, but it’s all looking a lot more hopeful than it was a couple of months ago.
