Proposal of Donation to the Chinese Health Care Workers ? (From the Chinese in Ottawa, Canada)
Our motherland is facing an unprecedented problem. SARS virus is seriously threatening peoples’ lives in the mainland China. Over a thousand suspected SARS cases have been discovered and hundreds had died from this disease. While medical facilities are limited in some highly populated areas, the origin of the SARS virus as well as its cure are still unknown, as a result, the combat against this disease will be prolonged and difficult. China is now facing serious threat, every city, every department is now involved in the “war” against this virus. Even though we are living abroad, we feel, from the bottom of our heart, the anxiety of enduring SARS in this difficult time, and we share the worries of our people in China.
The SARS virus is rapidly spreading across our motherland. It started in the Southern bordering province of Guangdong, now our capital city Beijing is also under tremendous pressure. Countless medical staff are fighting the disease in the frontline. They have taken on the responsibility to contain SARS, often times they cannot go home to their families. They live with the infected SARS patients in specially quarantined areas. Many of them have already been infected with the virus, some have even sacrificed their lives to save those of others. We cannot be untouched by their spirit of sacrifice.
China is the center stage of the global combat against SARS, even though some countries have successfully contained the epidemics. The result of China’s fight against SARS will have a direct impact on the global fight against this disease. Every single Chinese, whether living in China or abroad, has the duty to participate in this fight that is threatening the wellbeing of the entire mankind.
The oversea Chinese are closely tied with people in our motherland. At this deciding moment, we should extend our sympathy and care to them. We propose: for the health care workers fighting in the frontline to save the lives of our friends and relatives, we should also do our part. We propose a donation for the medical staff in Beijing, for the purchase of preventive products (such as N95 masks and protective gowns).
The Chinese communities and several oversea Chinese associations have formed a committee to fight SARS in the capital region of Canada. This committee will organize donations in recent weeks, through different means and measures. Activities such as charity movie showing, setting up charitable donation boxes in the Ottawa region are example of our proposed charitable donations. Details will be available from www.comefromchina.com website, the Canada China News and the Health Times newspapers.
If the donations is made in the form of a check, please specify the title “Zheng Anderson In Trust” (Wang Zheng Attorney’s office will supply a free trust account for this donation activity). Please also specify, in the MEMO area of the check “Ottawa SARS Donation for China”. All cash donations will be transferred to checks. To facilitate the process, please give checks and/or cash to the volunteers of the organizing committee.
