Rink of Dreams to open Wednesday

In the nick of time and a bit over budget, the new refrigerated ice rink on City Hall’s north lawn is to open at 5:30 Wednesday afternoon, Mayor Jim Watson announced Monday morning. The “Rink of Dreams,” mostly funded by the Ottawa Senators Foundation, was originally supposed to open in December, but design and construction delays mean it’s only opening this week — but in time for the National Hockey League’s All-Star Game, which is in Ottawa this weekend. The 12,500-square foot rink, by Laurier Avenue, is refrigerated and so it’s supposed to provide a reliable surface for icy winter events if the weather doesn’t co-operate.
