This type of deal is mainly on the '50-point inspection'. Once you signed the deal, you are also accepted the 50-point inspection. The shop can legally open your hood and under the car to look for potential problem to up sale further sales.

I've seen a lot of these from Groupon and Stealthedeal.

Yes, I don't even bother with the sales pitch. We know how much those oil (Castrol) and original factory filter cost. $19+tax are bother line, very close to cost. If you want cost effective, buy cheapest oil and cheapest filter( approx $13) and change yourself.

Whether you can just change oil, and you have to read the fine print of the deal.

1. Midas is a Franchise company.
2. There is NO free lunch. Are you willing to do things for free or lost money, i.e. for each service you provide to your customer, you lost money. The only reason I can think of is the owner tries to do MONEY laundry. It is too good to be true.
3. Do you know the cost of synthetic oil and ordinary engine oil?
4. Usually my mechanic will change filter, do you know how much is that filter? If you do mathematics (adding the cost of engine oil and filter, AND labor cost, rent on garage, utilities), it doesn't make sense to me (from business point of view).
5. Your car doesn't need to change engine oil everyday. Refer to your car owner manual.
6. Find an honest garage, at least you have peace of mind.
7. My mechanic in Toronto charged me 30 CAD cash, but he will check my tire pressure, brake pad, and a thorough inspection on other oil level. (If you change engine oil every 3 months, then the difference is less than one dollar per week, or 15 cents per day!)
