I buy the car that pleases me the most & live my life the way I wish.
I don't let some magazine tell me what to buy or not buy.
What I also find funny is that according to this report, on average each car has about 1.5 issues (not specifying major or minor). I call that bullshit stats
If you have a FRIEND who is a mechanic, your friend will tell you which brands and models have most problem.
I have been driving to and fro Ottawa and Toronto for more than eleven years, what I observed cars that broke down in winter time (especially snow) on highway are mostly to be "Am..." cars. Who wants to be left in -20 outside for hours (if there is snow storm) waiting for CAA?? Hence, a reliable car is very important. It is about one's life or death. NO bullshit (this is the right situation to use the word bullshit).
Also, there is one fact, all cars (European, Asian, America) should be trouble free for the first four years (within warranty), minor problems start coming out in sixth or seventh year. Worse case scenario is Transmission failure! (which cost at least 1500 to fix). In the long run, to maintain "Am..." is more expensive than "J" or "Asian". My mechanic told me most "AM..." cars have trnasmission failure when mileage is over 300000 km.
My view on reliability: you can buy the most reliable car and hate the guts of it on your daily driving, or you can buy a car that you really enjoyed driving and occasionally have some issues. I guess that's the same choice we face each and every day - it's called tradeoff and priority. Just pick your poison.
