Ottawa Chinese Community Service Centre Job Posting
Position: Early Childhood Educator-For Childminding and Occasional Child Care
Placement: April 01, 2012 to March 31, 2013
Employment Status: Part-time: 20 hours per week
The Ottawa Chinese Community Service Centre is a non-profit, non-partisan, charitable organization committed to advancing the full social and economic integration and participation of newcomers, immigrants and people of Chinese descent in the City of Ottawa. Funded by the Citizenship and Immigration Canada, OCCSC provides childcare services for the children whose parents attend OCCSC’s programs.
Responsibilities:
· Prepare the room appropriately before the children arrive;
· Be in the room and ready to accept and supervise the children at the scheduled time;
· Check the children for injuries and illness as they arrive;
· Monitor all entrances and exits at all times;
· Supervise the children’s daily activities and routines;
· Monitor the children’s behaviour and intervene as needed;
· Inspect and maintain toys and equipment;
· Respond sensitively to the cultural heritage, values and individual experiences of the children;
· Behave appropriately with the children, individually and in groups;
· Communicate with parents; and
· Assume an equal share of housekeeping responsibilities
Qualifications
· A two-year diploma in early childhood education or equivalence;
· At least one year experience, or education equivalent to one year’s experience, working with children of the age from 19 months old to the students with grade 8;
· Current First-Aid and CPR Certification
· Current TB test or willing to have the TB test
· Familiar with Childminding and Occasional Childcare
· Experience working with children and parents from diverse populations
· Speak English at the equivalence of LINC Level 4 or higher
· Communication skills in Chinese an asset
· Criminal Reference Check is required
· Team player
· Supports the mission and charitable efforts of the agency
· Able to work evenings and Saturdays
