The Sparks Street merchants’ association is adding to the chorus of objections to the city’s plan to get rid of a light-rail station entrance by the National Arts Centre. “We have events in the summer that can bring 300,000 people in three days,” said Sam Elsaadi, the chair of the Sparks Street Business Improvement Area and the owner of La Mode hair salon at the east end of Sparks. “Busker festival, rib festival, and Canada Day is huge … It’s a great project for the city, a great project, but if we’re going to spend this much money, it should be something that serves every area.”
