Depth of field for digital camera

Hi,

I found that the DOF is quite limited on point@shoot digital cameras. In my case, my Canon G2 has the minimum aperture f8 only. This cause a few problems:

1. Not enough DOF for landscape/wide angle type of photos;
2. Shutter speed is limitted to relatively fast settings when I really need a slow speed, e.g., to shoot running waters and make it look like flowing milk. Not possible for G2 at good lighting condition.

Your thoughts ?

I am not sure, but for a famous camera, that sounds incredible.

7-21MM的焦距. F8的景深应该可以满足大多数情况的需要了.
至于为什么最小只有F8, 我猜测对于7MM的焦距,小于F8时光孔太小了:
1.受到制造工艺的限制.
2.影响成像质量.
(类比135镜头)

个人认为不好办.设成ISO50吧.

F8 is not good enough in some of the photos I took, and I was told many p&s camera are similar, since if the aperture goes any lower, they will have some distortion problem.

For item2, yes, in fact I always shoot at ISO 50 as higher ISO will introduce noise. But in many cases, light is still too strong and demand a faster speed at ISO 50. Propably you just need to choose a cloudy day for such photos.

Wonder how does G2 compared with other p&s camera with respect to aperture ? As far as I know, not much better.

可以用中灰密度镜!
如果没有, 前面挡块偏振试试看.

Thanks for the tip. Haven't thought about that. I need to get an adapter first before I can add any filter.
