OTTAWA — Drivers parked at metered city spaces can use their phones to buy more parking time, the city announced Thursday. It’s putting big stickers on all of its “pay-and-display” machines, at street spots and in city lots, explaining the system, which lets users add time to their meters by calling a particular phone number, using a smartphone app (on Apple devices, BlackBerrys or Android phones), or going to paybyphone.com. The service costs 25 cents per transaction, paid to the company the city hired to provide the service, Verrus Mobile Technologies. Signing up is free, but requires registering with a licence plate and credit-card number.
