The monster traits that Blizzard has placed for Elites favors ranged so much...lets look them over.
Arcane Enchanted:
A ranged is effected very little by this skill. They constantly are kiting the mob anyway so kiting it away from the harmless pink orbs before they turn into death lazers is not a big deal.
A melee has to constantly dance around these stupid things while trying to keep up a decent amount of damage and...oh yeah...fight a pack of mobs with enhanced stats...
Avenger:
A ranged is only affected by this if the mob they are fighting is able to hit them...which is not often.
A melee is always affected by this because they have to trade blows with the mob to be effective.
Desecrator:
A ranged is hardly affected by this. Kite the mob and kite this skill at the same time.
A melee is annoyed by this as he has to reposition every time the skill is used or he'll insta-die.
Electrified:
A ranged is hardly affected by this because the scatter of the lightning means the chance of getting hit at range is pretty low.
This might as well be thorns for a melee...except bursty unpredictable thorns...
Extra Health:
All around not fun for any class...
Fast:
Annoying for ranged for sure but ranged can use skills at range to slow them down.
Melee: makes retreating really hard...which is bad since you have to kite until your defensive CDs are back up and your skills have limited range making slowing them at range near impossible.
Fire Chains:
If you can kite a mob, you can kite his fire chains.
This is the worst skill to go against for a melee, IMO. There is just no way to avoid the chains and deal damage...fire chains spell death for melee Hell and beyond...
Frozen:
Ranged: I think I'll just kite that harmless orb there...
A melee needs to find a safe spot in the orb field and keep an anti-CC saved or else have the chance of getting freeze chained to death...
Health Link:
Pretty un-fun for any class but since it keeps all the melee hate mechanics alive longer it probably hurts melee more...
Horde:
Ranged: kite one or twenty...no matter to me.
Melee: Oh gods no...
Illusionist:
All: oh its only an illusionist! Much rejoicing!
Invulnerable Minions:
All: ...
Jailer:
This is annoying for everyone, it stops a melee from being effective or escaping when defensive CDs are gone and it gets ranged killed by not allowing kiting. But some skills can break jailer,such as tumble and thunderclap, so depending on the skills you are running it may not be a big deal or it may be the worth thing ever...
Knockback:
Range: Thanks for helping man!
Melee: Annoying...but I'd take this over most anything else...
Missile Dampening:
Ranged: Now I have to kite longer...sad day.
Melee: Wait? Blizzard calls this ranged hate? Shouldn't it reflect projectiles back at them at double damage or something?
Molten:
Ranged: I runs away and nullifies your skill!
Melee: Don't chase Singed....I needs me a nice safe corner and now!!
Mortar:
Ranged: Kite and dps between volleys...check!
Melee: I hope these are not ranged elites or I'm screwed...
Nightmarish:
Ranged: Hey look they're helping!
Melee: Hey look I'm running away from elites...what's new?
Plagued:
Ranged: Ok cool you stand in the puddle, I'll stay here...
Melee: Why hasn't his last 3 puddles gone away yet...running out of real estate here!!
Shielding:
Ranged: Now I have to kite you longer...dumb...
Melee: Ok defensive cds up lets do this! Immune Immune Immune...defensive cds down time to run away!!!
Teleporter:
All: Either crazy OP or useless depending on other skills...if they have fire chains, ranged gets to learn how melee feels all the time!
Thorns / Reflect Damage:
Ranged: lols only reflects melee attacks
Melee: ...I hate you so much Blizzard...
Vampiric:
Ranged: You can't hit me so useless skill u got there...
Melee: Well, anything with AoE is unkillable now...
Vortex:
All: I can avoid that Ao-OH GODS! "You've been defeated."
Waller:
All: WTF? I was stuck IN that wall!? Did Blizzard ever even play test this?
Looking through...as you can see...Blizzard made TONS of anti-melee elite skills and almost none that effect ranged more than melee...
