I bought a craftsman lawn mower from sears in 2008. it is a rotary lawn mover with 675 series briggs $stratton engine, 21" rear discharge. I have been using it for the past 4 years, no any problem.
Friday evening 8:20pm, I made a big mistake because I am too nearsight and it was a little dark outside. When I was pushing it too close to one of my window wells, the blade hit the metal endge of the window well then stopped (the blade itself not broke but the edge of the window well broke). After sever minutes, I tried and found that I can still start the mower and continue using it. However, I made the same mistake again for another window well after only using it for another 10 minutes. Then mower stopped again. The blade not broke but the edge of the second window well broken again. I can still restart the mower but there is some strange sound. Since it is close to 9pm so I stopped mowing and put it back in my garage.
This morning, I tried and restarted the mover then using it for about 5 minutes. Since there is some strange sound, so I stop it then check the bottom. I found the blade is loose so just use my hand to tight it. Howerever, when I tried to restart it by pulling the start handle, I cannot start the engine even I can pull the start rope. The engine does not have any reponse.
I do not know if the engine is dead or othe parts broke (e.g. shaft) as I cannot find any visible damage. sears will charge $49.99+tax just for technicician evaluation. Anyone knows where I can get a free evaluation (or for a small fee) before the repair?
