As Canadians read about the death of mountaineer Shriya Shah-Klorfine on Mount Everest on May 19, Ottawa climber Sandra Leduc learned of the death 8,000 metres above sea level. On May 20, Leduc made her first summit attempt of Mount Everest, where she encountered the body of fellow Canadian Shah-Klorfine.
