The government has officially approved restarting the Nos. 3 and 4 reactors at Kansai Electric Power Co.'s Oi nuclear power plant in Fukui Prefecture, which would make them the first in the nation to resume operations since the outbreak of the crisis at Tokyo Electric Power Co.'s Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant last year.
The decision to restart the two Oi reactors, which had been idled for routine maintenance, was made at a meeting Saturday morning between Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda and relevant Cabinet members.
Prior to the decision, Fukui Gov. Issei Nishikawa met with Noda at the Prime Minister's Office to convey the prefectural government's approval of restarting the reactors at the plant in Oi, which is in western Fukui Prefecture.
