The City of Ottawa is crediting weeks of training and the quick actions of a 17-year-old lifeguard for saving the life of a four-year-old boy found face-down in a west-end wading pool on Friday. Lifeguards blew their whistles, cleared the pool and called 911 around 4:50 p.m. when a 17-year-old lifeguard noticed the child, identified by his brother as Luol Pac, floating face-down in the approximately one-metre deep pool at the Michele Heights Community Centre. The lifeguard team pulled the unresponsive child on to the pool deck, where the 17-year-old lifeguard began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the boy.
