Man facing sentencing for assault says ex-girlfriend attacked him

A man with a history of assaulting women testified at his sentencing hearing Tuesday that his much smaller ex-girlfriend scratched him, struck him in the face and then swung at him with a knife before he angrily stabbed her. Steven McAndrews said he regretted losing his temper and stabbing Maureen Graham, but insisted that her version of events — that he broke into her home, strangled her and then chased her down and stabbed her — wasn’t true.
