High school art students’ stamp designs pay tribute to Jack Layton

OTTAWA — Merivale High School student Joy Knowles has never really followed politics, but when she sketched the late NDP opposition leader Jack Layton for an art class project, she knew she had to get his spirit — and his iconic moustache — right. The Merivale Grade 11 graphic design class took on a unique project last fall when their teacher, Irv Osterer, asked them to create postage stamps in Layton’s likeness.
