On a recent Thursday, one of Dr. Pierre Blier’s patients came to his clinic for an emergency appointment. The 44-year-old woman was so depressed that she was contemplating suicide. “We can’t let her go home,” the clinician who assessed her told Blier. “She’s going to kill herself. She has a plan. She knows when she’s going to be alone.”
