Boy, 16, dead after single-vehicle rollover
A 16-year-old boy is dead after a van carrying five young men rolled over in Riverside South early Saturday morning.
Police and paramedics we called out to the intersection of Lowen Drive and River Road just after 2 a.m. for a single-vehicle crash.
The van had been heading north on River Road approaching Lowen Drive when it left the road, police said.
Two of the passengers were ejected from the vehicle, paramedics said. One of them, the 16-year-old, was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering multi-system trauma.
The second passenger, a 21-year-old man, was found unconscious about 15 metres away from the van and brought to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver, a 17-year-old boy, was taken to hospital with another 17-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man, who all suffered minor injuries. One of them tried to flee the scene after the crash, paramedics said, but was later found nearby.
The victim's name has not yet been released.
Police are investigating.

Fiery bus-car collision kills man west of Ottawa
A man is dead after a Greyhound bus and a car collided on Highway 7 west of Ottawa today, Ontario Provincial Police said.
The westbound bus and a Volkswagon Jetta heading in the opposite direction collided head-on between Innisville, Ont., and Carleton Place, Ont., at about 10:15 a.m. ET Friday, police said. The car then caught fire.
The driver of the car, Damon McCamon, 29, of Lanark County died at the scene.
OPP Const. David Bird said 49 people were on the bus, including the driver.
Police said some passengers on the bus suffered minor injuries and were transported to a community centre in Carleton Place for treatment.
About 30 passengers who had been on the bus boarded a new bus at Carleton Place bound for Toronto. Jonathon Cole said people screamed when the collision happened but everyone was calm as they exited the bus through an emergency window.
Jonathon Cole of Toronto said he was sitting in the back seat and held on to a man to prevent him from falling forward. Cole said the bus tire came off in the collision and passengers used it as a step as they exited the bus through the emergency window.
Highway 7 was closed but reopened at 4:45 p.m. ET.
The crash remains under investigation.
