City staff to address $300,000 shortfall for public-health unit’s 2013 draft budget

OTTAWA — Staff will have to come up with $300,000 in savings as they put together Ottawa Public Health’s draft budget for 2013. The draft document for the expected $53.9-million budget isn’t tabled at the city’s board of health until next month, but staff on Monday asked members of the board’s financial committee how comfortable they’d be if an “alternative funding” target was set out to cover the shortfall through things like external partnerships, grants, philanthropy and sponsorship.
