‘Fine and capable’ Ottawa police staff sergeant demoted for insubordination

An Ottawa police staff sergeant was demoted Wednesday to a lower rank for accessing police databases 169 times in three years for information on her former girlfriend’s ex-partner. Staff Sgt. Lyse Fournier, who pleaded guilty to two insubordination charges under the Police Services Act in August, was demoted Wednesday to the rank of sergeant for a period of seven months.
