City denies liability for OC Transpo passenger’s alleged crash injuries

OTTAWA — An OC Transpo passenger’s own negligence is to blame for any injuries she might have received in a collision between two buses on the Transitway in February, the city says in its defence against a legal claim that seeks nearly $1 million in damages. The city and one of the bus drivers admit they’re liable for the rush-hour collision on Feb. 7, but any injuries Yanrong Li might have suffered were caused or contributed to by her failure to use a handrail, “keep a proper lookout,” and “exercise reasonable care,” according to a statement of defence filed this month to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.
