PS downsizing creates big rise in requests for counselling

OTTAWA — The turmoil of downsizing that is taking a personal toll on Canada’s public servants is also having an “organizational’ impact on departments as they cope with stress of managing with shrinking budgets, staff and changing jobs. Federal departments turned to the government’s Specialized Operational Services (SOS) for help to cope with “organizational” impacts of job losses in the workforce at a higher rate than requests from individual public servants for personal counselling to help cope with the stress of downsizing.
