The setup to the joke varies — a dominatrix and her slave walk into a bar, say — but the punch line is always the same: the masochist, when asked “Why do you hang around with that sadist?” replies, “Beats me!” Scott Gilmore claims no particular sadism, but adds there must be plenty of masochists in Ottawa, at least judging by the response he’s received from people who want to be his new executive assistant.
