Ottawans moving downtown find higher taxes when they get there

OTTAWA — Residents of Ottawa’s downtown wards can expect a slow-motion soaking as their city tax bills go up because of increases in their properties’ value over the past four years, city officials said Monday afternoon. The word came just a few hours after city planners happily told city council’s planning committee that intensification policies meant to encourage people to live downtown are working better than expected.
