OTTAWA — Community groups contending with a proposed new landfill near Carlsbad Springs should get $50,000 of city money to hire experts to help them, says a proposal bound for city council’s environment committee next week. The suggestion is included in comments on Taggart Miller Environmental Services’ plans for an environmental assessment for two sites it is considering — one just inside Ottawa’s southeast border and one just outside it in Russell Township. The detailed assessment is required under provincial law and includes numerous stages. Affected parties, including the city, get to comment on how it will be carried out before it actually happens, then get to comment again on the results. The final word is up to the provincial environment ministry.
