OTTAWA — The Conservative government will consider purchasing two different types of aircraft to handle the military’s search-and-rescue duties, a move that could allow it to blunt any political criticism of the $3-billion program. Over the years, the air force has maintained it would be too expensive to operate two types of planes for search and rescue and wanted to purchase only one type of aircraft model.
