This is for the front yard interlock. The contractor suggested not to remove the concrete stairs built originally by builder and to lay the bricks directly onto the concrete (with construction glue). Anyone heard of such suggestion? Is this a good option? Thanks.

我看到自己做的，除非换条石做楼梯，一般都把原来的水泥楼梯包里面。。

包有一个缺点就是设计上得照顾原来的楼梯，不能随心所欲。。如果CONTRACTOR做，两种方法的估价差不多，就让他们给移了。。

前院的水泥台阶恐怕没法移，只能砸了。如果原台阶形状不好，可以用砖找齐改变形状，前提是要有足够的地方。

没说清楚，有的BUILDER（比如UBANDALE）是现场浇铸台阶，这个拆起来太麻烦，估计只能贴；有的BUILDER（比如RICHCARFT）用的是提前浇铸好的台阶，直接搬过来用。。我们家就是，不过很重搬不动也不知道怎么扔。。只好将来把它包里面了。。其实我还是喜欢用条石做台阶。。

oh, one more question. As long as the interlock is done before the freezoing point starts, it is fine, correct? the contractor claims that he can get very good price on the materials because it is end of the season.

The interlock will sink around the concrete steps especially the ones were poured with the fundation. After several years, you will have uneven surface. You will need to fix it unless you don't care about the look. This is was our experience.

of course i care about the look. the look of the interlock is all that matters! but i dont understand why the surface of the steps would be uneven? ain't the bricks glued directly to the old concrete stairs? do u have a picture to share?

和房地基一起浇筑的水泥台阶是和房地基一起沉降的，而你的在台阶上面的花砖是和台阶粘在一起的。如果是老房子，那地基沉降已经基本稳定，所以台阶上的花砖就不会再沉降了，但是台阶周围的花砖是一定会沉降的，所以时间长了中间的台阶就会高出来，造成不平。如果是新房子，地基沉降还没有结束，那台阶上的花砖就会随着地基沉降，而台阶周围的花砖的沉降是肯定和房子地基不一样的，所以时间长了，就不在一个平面上了。
