Dalton McGuinty’s hope that proroguing the Ontario legislature would tone down the poisonous partisanship in the legislature and sidestep a potential scandal appears to have failed — as well as guaranteed a spring election. With public anger at the premier’s prorogation of Queen’s Park spreading, the opposition parties, particularly the Progressive Conservatives, are stepping up their attacks on the minority Liberal government with the kind of language normally reserved for election campaigns.
