Violent collision prompts emergency surgery to deliver woman’s first child

OTTAWA — After five miscarriages, Carrie Curry was finally going to have a child. Just before noon Tuesday, Curry — 28 years old and eight months pregnant — left a baby shower held in her honour and was driving back to work in her fiancé’s mother’s van. But near Innes and Frank Kenny roads in Ottawa’s east end, she collided with a car. Immediately, she feared the worst.
