Campers learn basics of rock ‘n’ roll and self-esteem

OTTAWA — When Christine Chesser saw the young girls shyly shuffle into their morning workshops, they didn’t look like stereotypical rock stars. Clad in skinny jeans, T-shirts and multi-coloured sneakers, they picked up instruments. Some, like Brynn Sumner, 13, chose the drumsticks, while others, like Billie Neeteson, 14, strapped on a bass, and the rest chose the widely recognized symbol of rock ’n’ roll, the guitar. Some had never touched an instrument before, while others greeted theirs with a familiar hand.
