Jury hears closing arguments in Toby Land murder trial

OTTAWA — Toby Land’s painful childhood memories of being sexually abused by his father resurfaced when he walked in to his Lowertown apartment to find his 32-year-old roommate “being intimate” with girl who was barely 15, a defence lawyer told the jury during the closing statements of Land’s murder trial Wednesday morning. The scene of a man and a child acted as a catalyst to a “frenzied attack” hours later that left Dominic Doyon slumped over dead in a pool of blood on the couch after being pummelled with a hammer, beaten with a crutch and stabbed repeatedly with a Samurai sword, Anne Weinstein told the jury.
