OTTAWA — The federal NDP is taking another crack at preserving Gatineau Park with the tabling of legislation on Thursday to protect the boundaries, integrity and ecology of the National Capital Region’s beloved park. Nycole Turmel, the NDP MP for Hull-Aylmer, was to table a private member’s bill supported by the party to define the Gatineau Park’s boundaries in law, and stipulate that the National Capital Commission, which operates the park, cannot sell or dispose of any land without the consent of Parliament. She hopes the legislation will be passed in time before the next election in 2015, to cement the park’s future.
