Ogilvy’s demolition gets final go-ahead

OTTAWA — Demolition of the Ogilvy’s building on Rideau Street was approved by council on Wednesday, and work to preserve the facade is expected to begin next week. Cadillac Fairview Corp., the corporate parent of the Rideau Centre shopping mall, plans to expand into the former department store at Rideau and Nicholas Street. Although the company doesn’t have a completed plan for the expansion, councillors agreed to allow the work to go ahead before winter.
