A shortage of grocery stores in Ottawa’s poorest neighbourhoods is an added barrier to residents who are already struggling financially to maintain healthy diets, according to a report by the city’s top public health official. This comes at a time that an all-time high of 48,000 people are turning to the Ottawa Food Bank each month to simply try to get enough to eat, Dr. Isra Levy wrote in a report submitted to the Ottawa Board of Health on Monday.
