Dentist and husband plead guilty in “preposterous” tax evasion scheme

A high-powered Ottawa couple who dodged the tax man by following the teachings of a group that believes taxes are unconstitutional pleaded guilty Tuesday to evading almost a million dollars in personal taxes and to helping others evade millions more. Pembroke dentist Tania Kovaluk, 50, and her husband, U.S. citizen Lee Williams, 55, were sentenced to 2.5 years and four years in prison, respectively.
