As long as your kids are born in Canada, they are canadian no matter you are an immigrant or not, no matter you live in Canada or not. Anyways, they only need to keep the birth certificate.
You must live in Canada for 2 years within the 5 years time-frame to keep your immigrant status except you get pre-permission from CIC. However, as long as your family is in Canada and your kids are younger than 18 years. You will get a visitor visa to visit Canada if you are not a immigrant anymore.
