The Defence Department issued notices to 541 civilian employees in two unions on Thursday that their jobs could be in jeopardy, Another 158 employees represented by the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC), mostly computer specialists but also nurses, nutritionists, occupational therapists and historians in the National Capital Region received affected notices. At the same time, 383 civilian employees with the department’s main union received affected letters, but DND is saying that of these newly issued “affected letters”, only 89 are new positions that have been identified.
