Thank you for your email and interest in Carleton University.

For all other programs it is important to submit all required documents by May 1, 2013 to ensure sufficient time for Carleton to process your application and for you to apply for your study permit.

Students applying from outside of Canada or United States should view our International Admissions website at www.carleton.ca/international. This website will provide information on the application process and admission requirements. We strongly encourage you to carefully read the application instructions for international students before applying.

Application Process

You are welcome to submit an application directly through Carleton University’s International Application. There is a $100CAD non-refundable application fee.

If you wish to apply to Carleton, along with other Ontario universities, you may want to submit an online application through the Ontario Universities Application Centre in Guelph, Ontario. For further information you may contact the Application Centre at 1-519-823-1063.

In order to have transcripts and documents (including diplomas, course descriptions) assessed for admission to Carleton University, they must:
· Submit an official original or notarized copy of each document from the issuing institution in the official language of the country. An original official document must contain the ink stamp or raised seal of the institution. A notarized copy must contain the original stamp/seal and signature of the notary.
· Submit a certified English translation or notarized copy (of the translation) of each original transcript and/or document. The information on the English translation must match exactly the information on the original transcript and/or document. For example, grades must appear in the same order on the original transcript and the translation.
· Photocopies will not be accepted unless notarized.

Please note: If they are admitted to the university, all documents submitted in support of the application become part of a Carleton record and cannot be returned.

Carleton University reserves the right to verify any documentation that you provide for accuracy. Verification may include contacting the institution that issued the document, contacting the Ministry of Education in the country concerned, contacting the appropriate Embassy or Consulate, or consulting a certified government translator.

Please Note: all documents submitted in support of your application become part of your Carleton record and cannot be returned.

Advanced Standing Credit
If you are attending a university or college outside of Canada, you must submit detailed course descriptions in order to be assessed for advanced standing credit. If you plan to petition please note the following:
· You must arrange to have official course descriptions sent directly from the institution to Carleton University in a sealed envelope.
· The course descriptions must have the official ink stamp or raised seal of the institution and must be in the official language of the institution.
· Alternatively we will accept a notarized copy of the course descriptions. A notarized copy must contain the official stamp or seal and signature of the notary.
· We also require a certified English translation of the official course descriptions if the originals were not in English.
· The information on the English translation must match the information on the original document. For example. Courses and credit hours must appear in the same order as on the original transcript.
· The descriptions should detail the course content of the subjects you have studied by topic, number of credit hours, and type of instruction (lecture, laboratory, etc.).
· If the course was taken more than 4 years ago, please provide the description that was in effect at the time the course was taken.

Providing official course descriptions and the corresponding certified English translation is the only method of obtaining transfer credit for previous post-secondary studies. Carleton University does not have placement tests or equivalence examinations. All documents submitted in support of your application become part of your Carleton record and cannot be returned. In all cases, determination of advanced standing credit depends on the grades you achieved, the type of institution you attended, the degree program(s) at Carleton you are applying for and the relevance of the course to your proposed degree.
The evaluation of transfer credits can be a lengthy process, so it is important to submit all your documents at least three months before the beginning of the term. That way you will be able to register for courses based on a more accurate assessment of your previous studies.

Once a student is admitted, we provide them with the tools necessary to begin their studies in Canada. Please see the link to our website outlining what students can do after they are admitted:

International students will enjoy the same access to facilities as covered under their fees:

English Proficiency Requirement

The language of instruction at Carleton University is English. Therefore, students whose first language is not English must demonstrate that they can cope with the demands of an English-language university. Students can prove their English proficiency in a number of ways. You can demonstrate your proficiency by showing you have completed your last three years of full-time secondary school (high school) or post-secondary study in a country where the primary language is English, and in a school where the curriculum and the sole language of instruction is English (i.e. in an accredited British, Canadian, American or Australian curriculum, or in an International Baccalaureate program). Students who cannot demonstrate three years in an English-medium school as outlined must submit results from one of the English language tests outlined in the chart below. Depending on the results, applicants may receive one of two types of admission.

Applicants presenting the language test scores listed in the table below may be eligible for an offer of admission with no English language requirements (ESLR) and may begin full-time degree studies.

If you have applied to a program that requires a portfolio, audition or supplemental application, you must ensure that we receive your English language test score on or before the supplemental application deadlines listed above. Portfolios and supplemental documents will not be assessed until all components have been received, including transcripts and language test scores.

Please note that students beginning their studies with an English language requirement are not eligible for admission to the following bachelor’s programs: Architectural Studies, Humanities, Information Technology, Industrial Design, International Business, Journalism, and Public Affairs and Policy Management.
