The longest pay-equity dispute in Canadian history was supposedly resolved a year ago when the Supreme Court of Canada weighed in on the side of thousands of clerical workers, mostly females, at Canada Post. The court agreed with a 2005 decision by the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal that Canada Post had underpaid the workers. Following appeals, one by Canada Post to the Federal Court, and then by the Public Service Alliance of Canada to the Federal Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court had the final say. Canada Post, in a last-ditch appeal to the highest court, was ordered to pay about 6,000 former and current clerical workers back wages and interest.
