Canal ice unsafe, NCC warns

OTTAWA — A weekend cold snap might freeze the canal but the ice is still not safe to walk on, the National Capital Commission is warning. The canal is drained in preparation for the 43rd season of the Rideau Canal Skateway season, but the water is still between one metre and more than four metres deep along the stretch of canal between Dow’s Lake and the National Arts Centre.
