west side shore fishing
----------------------------------
Hi Gin:
I shore fish in Arnprior quite a bit... right downtown from the first boat
launch up past the second boat launch to where the Madawaska river meets the
Ottawa River... There is also a spot on the left side of the public beach
where some rocks have been dumped where you can fish. (It's quite deep here)
If nothing works out there I head out of Arnprior (drive through the town),
grab a coffee at Tim Hortons by the McDonanlds and drive toward White Lake
on I think it's called "White Lake Road". I'll stop at the first bridge,
park on the side and fish under the bridge that goes over Madawaska Lake. If
nothings biting there, (you can fish both sides of the bridge), I head to
White Lake. I haven't fished there yet this year but there is a public
area,( after turning right once you get to the town of White Lake and go
towards Burnstown), where you can fish.
If that isn't working out I head towards Burnstown and turn left once I
arrive... (you'll head over a bridge just before you reach Burnstown). From
there I go to Springtown and there is a bridge, which you'll drive over and
miss if you blink, and I try fishing both sides of the bridge where the
water goes threw a tunnel.
If that doesn't work out I keep going in the same direction I came from and
head towards Calabogie Lake. There are two public boat launches you can fish
from... my favorite is in town by the information booth.
If I'm not catching there I keep going past the information booth to
Barryvale... that's east of Calabogie. You take a right off of the highway
and head towards Barryvale. Once there you go past the golf course to the
end and take the road to your right... stay on your right until you can't go
any further.. (a sign will tell you so). Park and fish the Causeway... lots
and lots of shore too fish here!!!
All the places I've mentioned are within an 1:15 minutes of Kanata... the
furthest being the Causeway at Barryvale. You'll catch Bass, Walleye (in the
spring), Pike and Catfish... If you're into it you could catch lots of Carp
in most of these places. I usually keep moving looking for active fish.
There are also spots in between which you can try but I haven't fished in a
while and they're not in my "routine" anymore.
If you're into Trout fishing let me know and I'll give you directions to a
few trout lakes in the Calabogie area I go to if the fishing is slow at the
aforementioned places. I usually catch brook/specs and rainbows. I imagine
that the trout fishing will slow down in the next couple of weeks as the
water warms but that ok with me as Bass season is almost here.
I also have a route I travel and shore fish in the Perth/Sharbot lake area.
Let me know if you want and/or need better directions.
One book that I've picked up and really enjoy is "Backroad Maps Eastern
Ontario"... You can usually find it where maps are sold... I bought mine in
the grocery store!!!
Keep in touch, let me know how it goes!
Have Fun, Dwight
