NCC OKs removal of airport land from Greenbelt

OTTAWA — The board of the National Capital Commission on Wednesday endorsed the removal of about 1,320 hectares of Ottawa airport lands from the Greenbelt, subject to a deal with the airport authority. The unusual move acknowledges the airport as an important part of the city’s economy. The Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport Authority, which leases the land from the federal government, wants flexibility to plan for expansion and development.
